How solar powers your home
How power gets from the panels on your roof to your power points, and what goes back to the grid.
- Panels. Panels on your roof turn sunlight into DC power.
- Inverter. An inverter converts it into AC power your home can use.
- Switchboard. Your switchboard sends it to every circuit.
- Your home. Lights, appliances and air-con run on your own solar power.
- The grid. Extra power can flow to the grid by day. At night, you draw from the grid, or from a home battery if you have one.

A battery stores the solar power your home doesn’t use during the day, so you can use it at night.
